INFINITY OSCAR PARTY--

Steamworks in Gastown was the venue for the biggest Oscar party Vancouver has seen. Infinity Media hosted the bash as their highly acclaimed film Capote was up for five of the awards. The event drew some of the city's top talents including the whole cast of the popular Vancouver television show Godiva's.

Vancouver's Infinity Features had a lot to celebrate during the 78th Annual Academy Awards. Their locally produced film Capote was nominated for five Academy Awards, with actor Philip Seymour Hoffman walking away with this year's Best Actor Oscar. In celebration of their success, Infinity hosted a splendid red carpet Oscar party at Steamworks in Gastown. The space was packed with a well-dressed and beautiful "industry" crowd.

Local production company Infinity Films, which made the Academy darling Capote with Philip Seymour Hoffman, threw an Oscar-viewing party at Steamworks (375 Water St.) on Sunday to celebrate the film's huge success. Capote received an Oscar (Hoffman won for best actor) and four nominations - a huge breakthrough for Vancouver's film industry, putting us on not only the world stage, but on the red carpet. We should all be proud!

Lundin for Africa

Richards and Chan Inc. is spearheading this project from the ground up and is very hands-on in the creation of the Lundin for Africa Foundation's non-profit and fundraising website. The Lundin for Africa website includes daily blogs of the expedition, ongoing charity blog, a map of where the team currently is, online donations and updates. Leanne Chan will play an active role as a director based out of Vancouver. The expedition will begin in January 2006 and the site will be fully active as the participants ride across the entire continent of Africa on motorbikes with only 2 support trucks. The Lundin Tour of Africa, Cairo to Capetown 2006, will be raising funds and awareness of how to directly improve the quality of life in Africa through building water wells for fresh water, schools, housing, orphanages and medial support throughout Africa. Babz Chula in Vancouver Sun Backlot November 26, 2005

Three years ago, brave Vancouver indie queen Babz Chula (Dirty, Last Wedding) who also found roles in U.S. features films shot here (Double Jeopardy, Connie and Carla) was diagnosed with breast cancer. She managed to conquer that, but is now undergoing treatment for another lethal cancer, Waldenstrom’s Non-Hodgkins Lymhoma, a rare blood cancer, that’s often slow moving and treatable, but currently, an incurable disease. She has decided to g to battle with a number of treatments, including weeks of chemotherapy, doses of Rituxan, vitamins and minerals, herbal infusions, IV treatments, acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine and needs help to raise $58,500 to pay for them.

Babz is a truly amazing person - and well-loved in Vancouver’s acting community.

She has contributed countless volunteer hours to many causes, including Starry Night’s AIDS Benefit, Burnaby Youth Custody Facility and The Centre for Integrated Healing. Now it’s our turn to give to her.

The website, GiveMeaning (www.givemeaning.com), has taken up this project and is working with Babz and her devoted friends and family to help her cancer treatments. GiceMeaning is a registered charitable foundation which provides tax receipts for Canadian residents for their donations. Individuals, companies and groups may join efforts to donate.

Characters Talent Agency has offered to sponsor this fundraising appeal to ensure that 100 per cent of all funds raised go directly to Babz’ treatment costs. At press time, about 72 hours after the announcement went out, more than $15,000 had already flowed in.

West coast films titans, Shawn Williamson and Stephen Hegyes welcomed selected guest to their 3rd annual Red Carpet Event at Jack Evrensel’s CinCin. Thanks to event planner Rory Richards the party was an outstanding success. John Rhys-Davies, Gil Bellows and the cast from Cold Squad, Corner Gas, Godiva’s and the Robson Arms walked down the Red Carpet.

Tribute to Larry Campbell in Metro Tuesday November 8, 2005

Movies and masquerades -
Publicist Rory Richards threw the Tribute to Larry Campbell bash at Wall Centre on Nov. 5. Amongst the legions of supporters were Da Vinci’s Inquest creator Chris Haddock (who works closely with Larry on this show about his life), and series lead actor Nicholas Campbell. Local comedy group Rock Paper Scissors did a re-en-actment of Larry’s first encounter with Jim Green that had everyone in hysterics.
